At the end of this course, the student will be able to:

• Define how Hubs, LAN Switches and Routers work
• Describe the function of a MAC address
• Define the difference between a Static and a DHCP IP address
• Define the terms LAN, WAN and VLAN
• Describe how a PC requests a DHCP IP address
• Describe how VoIP works
• Define the terms Codec, Latency and QoS as they relate to VoIP
• Discuss power considerations in a VoIP environment
• Describe the difference between the signaling path and the communication path used in SIP
• Define how RTP and SDP are used in SIP
• Define the format of a SIP URI address
• Define the benefits of XML

This WBT will introduce students to the terminology and concepts used in today’s networks. Each lesson builds upon the previous lesson in a step-by-step common sense approach. The WBT will take the student through interactive lessons, demonstrating how networking equipment and networks work. This WBT series will cover modern day network equipment, VoIP and SIP technologies. The overall goal of the course is to give any employee a basic foundation of today’s networking technology that is an integral part of our everyday life, whether at work or at home.

The Fundamentals of Networking course contains the following modules:

• Hubs, LAN Switches and Routers
• VoIP Fundamentals
• SIP Fundamentals

• Student will receive, via email, logon instructions and attendee instructions
• Student must have access to:
