At the end of this course,
the trainee will be able to:
- Recognize components and subsystems down to the
printed circuit board/module level
- Define the possible system configurations and cabling
requirements
- Describe the functions performed by components and
subassemblies
- Perform installation/maintenance exercises using
the administrative and maintenance consoles
- Perform ordinary system operations such as backups,
switchovers, power up/down procedures, and processor
initialization
- Describe basic T1 and ISDN theory
- Use diagnostic procedures
- Interpret system alarms

| Course Contents |
The Pointspan Operations and Maintenance
course provides a student with basic understanding of
the M6880 switching system and software and hardware.
Core components of this course include an in depth review
of hardware as well as regular maintenance and troubleshooting
issues such as switchovers, alarms, backup and restore,
and start up procedures.
- Students are introduced to the Pointspan M6880 hardware
- Students complete labs for installation of cards
and hardware
- Students learn to analyze and resolve hardware problems.
Included in this discussion is an introduction of
alarms at the maintenance console and card level.
- Students learn console operations, diagnostics,
and system alarms and messages
- Students are introduced to various Pointspan configurations
- Students will learn the recommended Pointspan preventative
maintenance routines
