| Objectives |
At the end of this course, the trainee
will be able to:
- Understand the Aastra Intecom Telephony Over Internet
Protocol (TOIP) philosophy
- Describe the major components of the Pointspan system
- Understand the basics of bus topology and its importance
in disaster tolerance
- Identify the Pointspan components that support distributed
and remote users
- Understand and use the common acronyms and terminology
specific to both Pointspan products and the telecommunications
industry

| Course Contents |
Introduces the students to the Pointspan
systems that use circuit-switched technology via Internet
Protocol (IP) networks to distribute control and signaling
for the system. This CBT demonstrates how TOIP technology,
using circuit-switched functionality, is bridged with
packet-switched technology in a single, unified system.
The Pointspan Technical Overview course is the prerequisite
required of all students who plan to attend any higher-level
Pointspan training course. This course introduces general
Pointspan systems, including:
- General System Overview
- Basic Design and Function
- Pointspan Server Components
- Collocated Servers
- Server Separation
- IP Nodes (IPN)
- Interface Module (IM) Components
- Remote Telephone Nodes (RTN)
- Extended Nodes

Attendee will receive
a CD package to include:
- An Installation guide, a USB security key, and a
CBT CD
Attendees must have:
- One of the following Operating Systems: Windows
98/ME/2000/XP
- A graphics Card: supporting 1024 x 768 minimum resolution
- A CD ROM drive
- One available USB port
- 30 Megabyte of available hard disk space
