| Objectives |
At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify the hardware components of PCs and servers and the proper handling of these components by observing ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) procedures
- Describe the terms bits and bytes, how to count in binary, and convert hexadecimal to binary
- Identify the difference between public and private IP addresses
- Define how Subnets and Subnet masks are used
- Define the difference between TCP and UDP
- Define when NAT and PAT are used
- Name the 7 layers in the OSI reference model
- Name the layers in the TCP/IP model
- Define the terms Encapsulation and Packetizing
- Define the wiring used for Ethernet
- Define how Hubs, LAN Switches and Routers work
- Describe the function of a MAC address
- Define the difference between a Static and a DHCP IP address
- Define the terms LAN, WAN and VLAN
- Describe how a PC requests a DHCP IP address
- Describe how VoIP works
- Define the terms Codec, Latency and QoS as they relate to VoIP
- Discuss power considerations in a VoIP environment

| Course Contents |
This WBT will introduce students to the terminology and concepts used in today’s networks. Each lesson builds upon
the previous lesson in a step-by-step common sense approach. The WBT will take the student through interactive lessons, demonstrating how networking equipment and
networks work. This WBT will cover modern day network equipment, standards, protocols, VoIP and SIP technologies. The overall goal of the course is to give any
employee a basic foundation of today’s networking technology that is an integral part of our everyday life, whether at work or at home.
The Fundamentals of Networking course contains the following modules
- Introduction to Computer Hardware
- The Fundamentals of Bits and Bytes
- Protocols and Standard
- Hub, LAN Switches and Routers
- VoIP Fundamentals
- SIP Fundamentals
